If you’re asking people what they want, you’re already on the wrong track. In qualitative research, especially when aiming for deeper insight, the goal isn’t to take consumer suggestions literally. It’s to uncover the needs, frustrations and desires that consumers might struggle to articulate. The hidden truth that sparks fresh thinking.
Aveen Redjep, ‘MVP and Prototyping’ Innovation Gym trainer, shares insights on common misconceptions around Minimum Viable Products (MVP’s) and how all R&D teams can use MVP thinking to launch faster, develop smarter, reduce risk, and align well with consumer expectations.
Our team recently stepped into a world of perfumery at the Experimental Perfume Club (EPC), to immerse ourselves in a hands-on innovation experience. It was an exercise in creativity, decision-making and user experience.
In today’s competitive landscape, R&D teams are under more pressure than ever to deliver innovative, high-performing products—without blowing timelines or budgets. We’ll explore some common challenges R&D teams face and how a structured, MVP-driven approach can help overcome them.

In this blog, we will explore five major R&D challenges that often hinder product success, and how we can overcome them using our Ideal Product Model (IPM), a consumer-centric framework for breakthrough product development.
At Untapped Innovation, we’re often asked to deliver training to help meet a specific project need or client objective. We recently led an Ideal Product Modelling (IPM) workshop for Perrigo, our consumer healthcare client in Dublin, and with the aid of some Innovation Gym blueprints, which helped us to visualise the course content in a bespoke way, the R&D participants were able to ‘learn by doing’.
Market Research Consultant, Bryony Hughes and Innovation Insights Manager, Aveen Redjep, were two very important people involved in the creation of our Innovation Gym training modules. Three years on, and with the courses gaining increasing interest in the innovation and R&D industry, we caught up with Bryony and Aveen to find out where it all began!
Sporting metaphors are rife in business, and with good reason: both fields are competitive, goal oriented and emphasise teamwork and leadership.
